Our approach

Good writing has
good readers.

Pen-and-ink drawing of an essay being read and revised by hand.

Our founder, Bence, graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Russian literature. It is good training for close reading, and it puts a 650-word limit in perspective.

We ask precise questions and give feedback you can use. “Go deeper” is not much help on its own. We help you work out what to say, where to say it, and when a sentence has done enough.

Several of our counselors worked in university admissions offices as undergraduates. That experience informs how we help students research colleges, ask useful questions and prepare their applications.

Students & parents

In their words.

“I’d rewritten my opening paragraph about twenty times. Working together helped me figure out what the essay was actually about, and the finished version still sounded like me.”

“Our daughter had plenty of ideas but struggled to put them on paper. Having someone patient who asked good questions made a huge difference. She started looking forward to the sessions.”

“The feedback was specific enough that I knew what to do next. I could ask questions, try something that didn’t work, and keep going without feeling embarrassed about a rough draft.”

“Having a clear plan took a lot of tension out of the process. Our son knew what he needed to work on each week, and we could stop making every dinner conversation about college.”
